For example, in the phrase "ugly dog", "ugly" is intersective because the fact that the dog is ugly is independent of the fact that it is a dog. If you were to determine that it was a pet, then you could conclude that it is an ugly pet (that is, "ugly" applies to "pet", independent of whether the pet is a dog).
